| The Calling, although a relatively young
band in the eyes of the market, seem to have both a well-established
sound and an exuberance which exudes from both lyrics and melody.
The lead singer has a surprisingly soulful quality to his voice, and
the rest of the band are fully capable of providing both power and
detail with each note played. |

| Hoobastank is a band which completely
caught me off my guard, and knocked me on my backside. The first
release from their new album, The Reason, was an intelligent and rhythmic
rendition of a power ballad reminiscent of the 80's. However
it was the next release, Same Direction, which turned me into a true
fan. The use of chords underscored by the basslines only compound
the aggressive lead vocals. Then add to the mix the potent drumbeats,
and you have a band which is tempered like steel. |

| What can you say about a man who took
a chance in life by gambling everything away, only to be rewarded
by winning the hearts of millions of fans worldwide? Elvis Costello
is just such a man. A man whose voice and songwriting talents
are considered to be up there with the best of them. In his
latest album we find that Elvis has decided to take his music stylings
and incorporate them into a contemporary jazz format. In many
ways, Elvis is the male equivalent to Diana Krall. |
